So a couple of years ago, JawzX2 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! an affordable endoscope online and after seeing that post, I just HAD to have one. It sure has proven useful...

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I’ve always wanted one of these scopes, but wasn’t quite willing to shell out a couple hundred bucks or whatever for a handheld unit. But holy cow, $12 for one that can plug into a laptop via USB? Are kidding me? Hell yeah! (And you can even get ones that attach to a smartphone, too...)

Image quality isn’t the best, but it still allows you to inspect things with minimal disassembly. Like this distributor gear:

Kinja'd!!!

Wear pattern looks good to me.

Broken wires in the dust boot going to my Mustang’s driver-side door:

Kinja'd!!!

So that’s why my power door locks stopped working.

The valves on my truck:

Kinja'd!!!

Peekaboo, I see you!

The timing chain tensioner on my brother’s Sebring:

Kinja'd!!!

It’s extended, but not overly so.

The valves on last year’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! project:

Kinja'd!!!

30 years is a long time to sit.

Also, that bike’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

Kinja'd!!!

Before

Kinja'd!!!

After

But wrenching isn’t the only thing this scope is good for. After dinner one night, one of my teeth felt... odd. So I decided to have a look:

Kinja'd!!!

Shit, it IS a cavity. Welp, time to see the dentist.

Kinja'd!!!

There. All better!

Cool! My problem would be frame of reference. Good valve? Dirty valve? I’d end up scoping everything for a comparison. “Hey hon, come here a sec, I’m not sure if my intestinal lining is supposed to look like this. Can you help me out?”

Yup, that one’s very similar. Though it doesn’t appear to have a brightness control (unless it’s in the software?).

I don’t remember where I got mine, but it was from some store that sold all kinds of overseas junk.

Nice find, though! I really like the extra tools in that kit!

mine saved me $15,000 on a house offer by letting me snake into the rafters through a light fixture and see the water damage from the poor shingle condition... We put in a lowball offer and told the bank what the deal was... They accepted our offer. We still have to put a roof on it, but at least we saved that money up front.

glad its proven useful for you too

Thanks China!

the one I got was from banggood.com. I got another one that was $17(!) that has 8mp resolution, a dual micro-regular USB plug, and a set of tools including a mirror, magnet, hook, and cutting blade. The image quality is, as expected, kinda poor, but it’s hella useful nonetheless.

Yes! The off-brand USB one that I have came with Windows software on a little CD. Also check out Smallbear’s reply with the AvE video; that one’s for Android devices...

Looks like there are a lot more of these on the market now than there were a few years ago, so you can easily find one that will suit your needs. In fact, I might just take another look at what’s out there myself. It would be nice to upgrade to something with better resolution and features.
